Warner Music NashvilleBlake Shelton sings a duet with Shakira on her new, self-titled album. It’s called “Medicine,” and Shakira was inspired to write it after singing a duet of Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now” on The Voice with Blake. Shakira then teamed up with some Nashville writers, who helped her create this country duet.

“I listened to the song, and it was amazing,” Blake says of hearing “Medicine” for the first time. “I immediately wrote back and I said, ‘Man, you wrote the song. That’s the style you like,’ which is kinda that mid-tempo, driving thing that Lady A kinda does. She definitely made it Shakira. So, I was honored she asked me to come sing on it.”

When Blake came in to sing his part, he was floored to learn Shakira had two other recording sessions running at the same time in other studios.

Blake says, “She thrives in that kind of environment. I would probably pass out. I don’t know what I would do, but she would come in and check and make notes and have ideas. I ended up getting it to, I think, where she could live with it.”

“Medicine” is now available on Shakira’s self-titled album, in stores everywhere. Give it a listen here.
