The Manhattan City Commission approved a clean 2016 City Audit Tuesday evening.
“This has been a great year in terms of audit,” said Assistant Director of Finance, Hillary Badger. “We had no significant findings.”
Manhattan has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting every year since 1996.
The Commission also approved updates to the City’s Grease Management Permit Plan.
The updates, as Assistant Director of Public Works for Water and Wastewater, Randy DeWitt explained include several facets that will improve the program.
“simplification of the permit renewal process, and increasing the functionality of the devices food service establishments use to control the discharge of grease and also increasing the accountability of those establishments as well as the contractors that clean and maintain those devices.”
According to the City’s website, grease-laden waste is a major contributing factor for sanitary sewer overflows and backups.
