RILEY, Kan. — A Clay County man was killed following a crash Thursday evening along Hwy 77 near Riley.

The Kansas Highway Patrol and Riley County Police Department in addition to Riley County EMS responded to the collision just after 5:30 p.m. on Hwy 77, also known as Madison Road.

KHP says a passenger car, driven by 20-year-old Kurtis Dean Anderson of Green, Kansas was westbound on US 77 when he swerved into the other lane attempting to not hit a non-contact vehicle. In doing so, the car struck a semi truck head on. The impact caused the passenger car to roll, coming to rest upside down.

Anderson died at the scene. The crash report indicates he was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Hwy 77 was shut down Thursday evening near Riley as crews investigated.
