The Ascension Healthcare Network announced Wednesday its clinical operations were disrupted by what officials call a cyber security event.

In a news release, Ascension said it responded immediately after discovering “unusual activity on select technology network systems.” The attack has affected 140 Ascension locations, including hospitals and senior living facilities.

The company stated Thursday there has been a disruption to clinical operations, and that they continue to assess the impact and duration of the disruption. It’s engaging a third party expert to assist in the investigation and remediation process and reaching out to business partners so they can take appropriate steps to safeguard their systems.
