The annual Riley County Fall Apple Day is set to take place this Saturday as the military installation will be serving apple pie slices and showing the general public what Fort Riley has to offer.

On Wednesday, Col. Gerald Nunziato, the garrison commander on Fort Riley and Sgt. Maj. John Adkerson, the command sergeant major, helped prepare two pies for Saturday’s event and both spoke more on why the day was so special.

“To be a part of a role that the Fort Riley garrison has done for 171 years is special,” he said. “To get to make pies, which is a big part of Fall Apple Day, is truly special.”
