Pearl RecordsEven after Garth Brooks‘ five shows in Ireland were canceled, the country superstar continued to hold out hope that he’d find a way to make them happen. But in a written statement Monday evening, Garth officially threw in the towel.
“I just received the news the Dublin City Council cannot change their earlier ruling to not allow the licenses for all five shows. To say I am crushed is an understatement,” he says in the statement, adding, “All I see is my mother’s face and I hear her voice. She always said things happen for a reason and for the right reason. As hard as I try, I cannot see the light on this one. So it is with a broken heart [that], I announce the ticket refunds for the event will go as posted by TicketMaster.”
Garth goes on to thank the folks who bought tickets, as well as the concert promoter and the Irish authorities who had continued to work toward a solution. He ends by urging his Irish fans to try to attend other shows on his world tour, and show their pride while doing so.
“I love you, always have, always will. I encourage any and all of them that can come see the show, at some point around the world, to bring your Irish flags and wave them proudly at the concerts. I will be looking for you,” he closes, signing the statement simple “garth,” in all lower-case letters.
The Dublin city council initially only approved licenses for three out of the five concerts at the city’s Croke Park.
On Tuesday, we’ll learn more details about Garth’s world tour, which is set to kick off in Chicago.
