One person was taken to the hospital following a Geary County accident Monday evening. Stephanie Hawkins, 36, of Georgia was taken to Geary Community Hospital after the accident at the junction of old U-S 77 and 77 in Junction City shortly after six p.m.
According to the highway patrol, Hawkins was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe west on Old 77 Road and approaching the intersection, with a second vehicle, a ’99 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Caurnest Herbert, 24, of Texas attempting to turn east onto old U-S 77 Northbound. Herbert lost control, slid northeast across the west-bound lanes of old 77 road and struck the guardrail on the north side of the road. The Grand Cherokee then glanced off the guardrail to the southeast and struck Hawkins’ Tahoe on the passenger side.
Herbert was not injured. Both had seat belts on.
