When he’s not busy catching criminals and cracking cases, it turns out Geary county sheriff Tony Wolf has a lesser-known talent — eating brisket. On Oct. 1, Wolf and four other competitors chowed down at Cox Brothers BBQ to help the establishment celebrate their five-year anniversary.
And celebrate they did.
Wolf said he had no intention of taking the competition seriously until he saw the two-and-a-half pound brisket sitting in front of him. From there, Wolf said his competitive instincts kicked in. Wolf handled the competition by devouring more than a pound and a half of the brisket in five minutes.
“If I eat brisket within the next couple months, it may still be too soon,” Wolf said. “But I love barbecue, I love brisket, and I love Cox Brothers.”
In return for his efforts, Wolf was awarded a prize pack which included K-State football tickets. Wolf gave away his earnings to his fellow competitors, and said he didn’t even think of eating another meal until later the next evening.
While Wolf is no expert in the field of competitive eating, he feels qualified to give some anecdotal wisdom to anyone who may feel the need to compete.
“I’ll offer a little advice to anyone out there who ever gets offered to do a competitive eating competition – don’t do it.”
On Oct. 13, Cox Brothers will be hosting their Hogtoberfest philanthropy, which raises money for Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.
