The selfie game in the Little Apple was proven strong Sunday afternoon.
Approximately 300 people gathered at Manhattan High’s Bishop Stadium to attempt to break the coveted Guinness World Record for the most people tagged in a selfie.

The standing record was 268 people in one photo tagging themselves on Facebook.
“That’s the key,” Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce President Lyle Butler said after the selfie was taken by local photographer Michael Henry. “There are selfies that have way more than 268 people, but the key here for the Guinness Book of World Records is that we have to get all of the people that were here today to tag themselves, so we’re really going to try and help them make that happen, and if we do, we break the world’s record.”
Butler said the idea for the attempt came out of the Chamber of Commerce as a way to bring volunteers together.
“All of the people that were here were volunteers — not for the Chamber, but for a bunch of different community events and activities that go on each and every year,” he said. “What it really was about to celebrate Volunteer Week, which is going on all this week.”
Manhattan resident Jamie Coones is new to the Little Apple and was watching the K-State baseball team play down the road before he decided to participate in the selfie.
“We wanted to come out and support it,” said Coones, who is also a Chamber member. “It was definitely something different. My girlfriend and I just moved to town here and we’re really trying to get out and get involved in the community more.
“This was kind of a cool way to get out and see some of the people we’re out dealing with everyday.”
