PAXICO – The Kansas Office of the State Fire Marshal has identified the man who died last week in a fire at the Wyldewood Cellars Winery in Paxico.

According to a release from the Fire Marshal’s office, 32-year-old Evan Jolly of the Kansas City, Missouri area was the one who perished in the fire Nov. 8. The investigation has concluded the fire was incendiary, meaning it was intentionally set. It is believed Jolly was the one who started the fire. His body was found near the building’s entrance near a gas can. It has been said that if the building had been up to code, as well as the entranceways and doors being the required fire ratings the fire may not have spread to the extent that it actually did. (See here on this fire proof & fire rated door repair, replacement & installation company webpage for more information on doorway fire codings and other fire safety construction). Either way, if it was intentional arson as suggested, the suspect would have more than likely found a way to set the fire somehow anyway.

The damage to the winery has been estimated between $750,000 and $1 million.
