Local cops to make morning rooftop stop to raise funds for Special Olympics

If you see cops on the rooftop of Dunkin’ this Friday — don’t worry, it’s for a good cause.

Local law enforcement will be staking out the Dunkin’ rooftop for the 2nd time in Manhattan to support Special Olympics Kansas.

The Cop on a Rooftop event happens around the country and is a national fundraiser for the Law Enforcement Torch Run movement benefiting the Special Olympics. Officers from RCPD and Pott County Sheriffs will be waving people over to Dunkin’ from 6 to 11 a.m. to encourage them to make a donation. And for your donation, you’ll walk away with a Special Olympics themed doughnut called “the Champion.”

RCPD PIO Hali Rowland says the local Fraternal Order of Police lodge organizes it.

“It might look a little funny, but stop on in and they’ll explain to you exactly what’s going on and how you can help,” says Rowland.

She also says that local law enforcement officers love to do community events like this.

“We’re going out and serving the community every day, but this is a way that we can help serve the community in a different way and help raise funds for an organization that’s helping people here locally.”

There aren’t any specific fundraising goals, and Rowland says they approach it with an “anything will help” mindset.

Dunkin’ will be making a $1,000 donation for the cause as well. The special doughnut will be available while supplies last.
