Fire investigators have ruled a Tuesday morning apartment fire in southwest Manhattan to be accidental.
The Manhattan Fire Department says it’s believed the fire at 711 Allison Avenue started due to improper disposal of smoking materials. The fire started on the third-floor balcony of the three-story 12-unit apartment building around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Damage occurred mostly to the exterior and attic areas. The loss is estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $2,000 to the contents. No one was injured as a result of the fire.
The owner is listed as Francis Properties, with the resident agent being listed as Patrick Lee of St. George.
Update Tuesday 7 a.m.
The Manhattan Fire Department says no injuries were reported in an overnight apartment fire in southwest Manhattan.
Crews were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday to 711 Allison Avenue. Upon arrival, a three-story apartment building was showing fire from a third-floor balcony. Riley County Police Department officers notified the occupants and were able to evacuate the building prior to firefighters arriving on scene. The fire reached a second alarm before being contained within 10 minutes.
The fire department says the fire appears to have started on the balcony and the damage was mostly to the exterior attic areas of the building. A damage estimate hasn’t been determined. Francis Properties is listed as the owner of the building with resident agent listed as Patrick Lee of St. George. The fire cause is under investigation.
A total of 21 firefighters responded with the last crews leaving around 5 a.m.
