A Manhattan man charged in an October double homicide has pleaded not guilty.

Montrell Vassar will appear at a May 24 hearing in front of Judge John Bosch, during which a jury-trial date will be decided upon.

Vassar faces two first degree murder charges in the deaths of 19-year-old Skylar Havens and 23-year-old Javon Gray.

Both were killed Oct. 9 at a residence in the Stagg Hill area.

Vassar also faces an alternative charge of possessing a stolen gun.

At an October court appearance, Riley County Deputy Attorney Trinity Muth argued an autopsy revealed both Havens and Gray were shot in the back.
