Despite the current weather forecast, summer is quickly approaching and that means swimming.

Sydni Baker, Manhattan recreation specialist of aquatics, tells KMAN that pool operations and activities will be back to nearly normal this season. She says they are excited to bring back all their activities and classes.

“We will have our typical water aerobics a river running, the noon hour swim- all that fun stuff. We’re excited!”

She says they will be opening three pools this summer- city, CiCo, and Northview. With all three pools open, Baker adds that staffing

“Our above deck operations takes anywhere from 170 to 200 seasonal employees. We are shooting for 120 lifeguards. You know, we have customer service, cashiers, swim instructors, swim aerobic instructors, managers, head guards, just a slew of people. It takes a village.”

She adds that anyone looking for a job, pool related or not, should check out the City of Manhattan.

“Parks and rec as a whole, hires a ton of employees between pools, our facilities, the animal shelter, I don’t know if they are hiring seasonals right now, but, you know, across the board we’ve got positions just about for everybody.”

Baker adds that for the pool operations this year they will be closing Northview at 6 PM instead of 7 PM to make time for more lessons. She also tells KMAN that they will be opening CiCo pool for weekend reservations this summer.

All three Manhattan pools open on May 28. To learn more about pool operation visit mhkprd.com. To find job applications for any parks and recreation job, visit cityofmhk.com.
