Manhattan High School has confirmed its first positive case of the coronavirus.
In a letter to parents Saturday, Principal Michael Dorst stated the student attended class Wednesday, Aug. 26 as part of the A group. Any student or staff member that was a close contact will be notified by the Riley County Health Department.
Students are currently divided into two learning groups on altering days in person while also utilizing distance learning, as part of the district’s hybrid learning model implemented due to COVID-19. The A group attended classes Wednesday. Students in B group attended classes Thursday.
The letter states that classes will resume as planned for this week.
Superintendent Dr. Marvin Wade has stated that the district will meet with health department officials this week to determine next steps on its instruction model as the percent positive rate continues to rise in Riley County. The county saw more than 200 new cases reported between Monday and Friday last week, the biggest spike in cases the county has seen since testing began in March.
