A Manhattan man is charged with murder following the death of a shooting victim from an incident late Friday.
The Riley County Police Department says 29-year-old Richard Goens was arrested Saturday on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault and aggravated robbery. He’s currently jailed on a $1 million bond.
Police were called out around 10 p.m. Friday to the sound of a gunshot in the 1400 block of Cambridge Place, near the intersection of Claflin and Seth Child. The shooting victim and a second person were both transported to Ascension Via Christi. The victim died later Saturday from injuries sustained in the shooting. Police say the second victim was not believed to have been shot.
Goens was taken into custody around 5 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 900 block of Moro Street.
In a release, the Riley County Police Department offered condolences to the victim and the victim’s family and thanked those who came forward to assist in the investigation. The department says because of that support they were able to identify and arrest the suspect in a murder investigation within 12 hours of the crime.
In addition, police say it’s possible there may be part of a gun taken apart in the Westloop area. If anyone sees it, they should call RCPD at 785-537-2112.
