Monday’s Pottawatomie County Commission meeting included reports from Public Works Director Peter Clark and the K-State Research and Extension office of Pottawatomie County.
Clark proposed hiring a consultant to perform a 20 year life-cycle cost analysis on the current County Appraiser’s Office to determine the best course of action moving forward.
The analysis is set to cost approximately $8,000 and will provide county commissioners with a variety of options in either renovating the existing building or starting construction on a new one.
Clark stated the County Commission and himself share the same value of saving taxpayers the most money while still providing the best facilities they can.
The K-State Research and Extension office came forward to propose the idea of “districting” their organization with Riley and Marshall County extension offices. Districting is said to allow local agents to focus more on their specific job titles and would also provide access to new agents that Pottawatomie County doesn’t currently have access to.
After recent budget cuts, districting is also said to help fund the K-State Research and Extension office by way of a 1 mill tax levy per valuation of each county in the district.
No decisions have been made into the matter by county commissioners, at this point in time.
