The Riley County Health Department is bringing back its popular Bug-A-Palooza Saturday, a family-themed interactive event aimed at protecting against insect bites, snakes, poison ivy and severe weather.
Director Julie Gibbs says they’re excited to host the event which has been on hiatus for a few years, primarily because of the pandemic.
Activities include a plastic fishing pond, a display of live non-venomous snakes, seed giveaway, a sensory bin and a bug search. Gibbs says the primary goal is to prevent against vector-borne illnesses such as Zika Virus and Lyme Disease.
Bug-A-Palooza runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Douglass Park.
Looking ahead, the health department is also planning a health fair next month.
The health department is partnering with Konza Community Health Center to offer free dental screenings at the May 25 event. No appointments are necessary. For more information call the health department at 785-776-4779.
