On May 5 at approximately 9:19 p.m., officers and emergency crews responded to 517 Stone Drive in Manhattan for a report of an infant not breathing. After arriving, emergency crews confirmed the infant was not breathing and began resuscitation efforts. Unfortunately, the infant was later pronounced deceased at Via Christi Hospital. On May 7 at approximately 7 p.m. Andrew L. Gibson, 25, of 517 Stone Drive was placed under arrest for Murder in the 1st degree as well as abuse of a child related to the infant’s death on May 5. Gibson is currently being held at the Riley County Jail on a $500,000 bond. For any further inquiries reference this incident please contact the Riley County Attorney’s Office.

On Sunday at approximately 11:08 p.m. officers responded to the Taco Bell located at 1155 Westport Drive in Manhattan for a report of an armed robbery. Officers responded to the area and subsequently located Qavonjez Mason, 23, of 1428 Beechwood Terrace Apt #11 in the 2800 block of Anderson Avenue. An investigation into the armed robbery ultimately led to the arrest of Mason for aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Mason is currently being held at the Riley County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Tara J. Sotkovski, 26, of 212 Twelfth Street in Ogden, was arrested on May 6 during the morning hours following a search warrant that was executed at her residence. As a result of the search warrant, Sotkovski was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a weapon, and child endangerment. Sotkovski is currently being held at the Riley County Jail on a $4,000 bond.

On May 7 at approximately 9:56 p.m. John Lean, 21, and Keaton Truesdell, 21, of 409 Bluemont Avenue in Manhattan reported a burglary to their residence that occurred on May 6. It is reported that an individual entered the residence and stole multiple items.

Charles R. Champion, 44, was arrested at 303 N. Juliette Avenue in Manhattan on May 6 at approximately 11:26 p.m. in reference to a probation violation warrant. The probation violation warrant stems from a prior incident of criminal threats. Champion is currently being held at the Riley County Jail on no bond.

On May 6 at approximately 3:18 p[.m. Gunnar Murray, 21, of 905 Bluemont in Manhattan reported a vehicle burglary that occurred sometime in the past couple days. Murray reported that while his vehicle was parked at his residence, somone entered his vehicle and stole a backpack containing miscellaneous items.

On May 6 at approximately 12:25 p.m. Commerce Bank, located at 727 Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan, reported a criminal damage to property incident. It was reported that Qavonjez Mason, 23, of 1428 Beechwood Terrace Apt #11 in Manhattan, had arrived at the business to cash a check and when the bank refused, Mason became upset and struck and damaged a glass countertop.

On May 6 at approximately 11:47 a.m. the University Crossing Apartment Complex located at 2215 College Avenue in Manhattan reported a burglary and criminal damage to property incident that occurred during the early morning hours. It is reported that an individual forced entry into a vacant apartment and while inside stole a 42 inch Dynex television.

On May 6 at approximately 8:26 a.m. Brandon Bryant, 25, of 830 Moro Street in Manhattan, reported to police a road rage incident that had occurred in the 900 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd in which the other driver brandished a handgun. Police filed an aggravated assault report and are currently investigating the incident.


Saturation patrol results:

The Riley County Police Department had its first of a series of seven DUI Saturation Patrols on the evening of April 30 into the early morning hours of May 1.

Five officers from the Riley County Police Department were assigned to the Saturation Patrol. Officers working the Saturation Patrol stopped 38 motorists. Of these, three were evaluated for DUI resulting in two drivers being arrested for DUI.
