Riley County clerk Rich Vargo announced his retirement Friday after 35 years of service.

Vargo served as county clerk for 30 years and oversaw a wide range of county administrative and election-related duties.

His current term was scheduled to expire in 2028. Because of his retirement before the end of his term, the Riley County Republican Central Committee will be responsible for appointing someone to fill the remainder of the term.
