Riley County is reporting one new COVID related death this week.

The 60-year-old woman was unvaccinated and died July 30 at the University of Kansas St. Francis Hospital in Topeka after testing positive just three weeks earlier. Her death represents the county’s 53rd COVID-related death.
Eight COVID-positive patients are currently under care at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. Five patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on ventilators.

Riley County has identified 85 new positive Coronavirus cases and 81 additional recoveries since the last report on August 11. There are currently 126 active cases.

Third doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine for those fully vaccinated individuals with serious health conditions are now available through the health department. Pending Food and Drug Administration approval and CDC recommendation, third shots could be offered to everyone in late September.
