A St. Mary’s man died in a Thursday night accident on the Kansas Turnpike. John Cooney, 53, was driving a 2002 Ford Econoline E-350 south of Topeka at milepost 164.8 when he lost control, left the roadway, overturned, and ended up in a ditch. Cooney was ejected from the vehicle as he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The accident was reported at 9:46 p.m.
