The T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter will host its third annual Clear the Shelters adoption event this Saturday.
A number of animals will be available for adoption during this event for a discounted fee of $25.
“We have 66 cats and 19 dogs that need homes,” Deb Watkins, T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter director, said. “We are their second best home, but their first best home is always with a family.
The shelter will also have two rabbits and one rat available for adoption.
Last year’s Clear the Shelters event saw 78 animals get adopted.
Clear the Shelter adoptions will take place from 11 a.m. til 5:30 p.m.. According to Watkins, shelter staff will be available during this time to help with the process.
“We’re going to have our full staff here on Saturday,” Watkins said. “Our adoption counselors will be working hard to make sure that we put these animals in the correct homes and that it’s the right fit for everyone’s lifestyle.”
In addition, animal control officers will be posted in front of the building to help with applications and to control how many people are going inside.
Face masks will also be available for anyone that needs one.
Those wanting to preview or apply to adopt available animals can do so online at petfinder.com.
Watkins advises those who do find an animal online that they want to adopt to get to the shelter before Saturday’s event so they can beat the crowds and make sure that the animal is the right fit.
The T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter is also requesting donations of blankets, towels, comforters, dog beds and toys.

Donations can be dropped off in front of the building.

The T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter is located at 605 Levee Dr., Manhattan, KS.
