Thomas Rhett contributed the song “The Way Things Go” to the just-released soundtrack for the film, The Best of Me, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. Even though he could lose his man card over it, Thomas admits he actually read the book, but he knows he’s not alone in his love for Nicholas Sparks books and movies.
Thomas says, “Every guy, if you ask him honestly, they’ve seen The Notebook. Let’s get real. If you’re married, you’ve seen The Notebook.”
As for The Best of Me soundtrack, Thomas became friends with the movie’s music supervisor, who asked him to write a few songs that might make the soundtrack. None of the songs Thomas wrote for the project worked, so he dug up an older song, “The Way Things Go,” that had never been commercially released before.
Thomas explains, “It’s always been one of my favorite songs, and we still play it live as a band. Never has been on a record before, so I’m glad that song is gonna get a little bit of exposure.”
Thomas will be on hand for the Nashville premiere of The Best of Me Thursday night.
He says, “It’ll be cool to meet Nicholas Sparks in person and get to watch the movie and get to see where my song falls in the movie.”
Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes, Eric Pasley and a few other country stars also contributed songs to The Best of Me soundtrack.
