Tom Hiddleston, who starred in two Thor films and in Marvel’s The Avengers as the villainous Loki, will portray country music legend Hank Williams in an upcoming biopic.
An official release regarding I Saw the Light states the film will chronicle Williams’ “meteoric rise to fame and its ultimately tragic effect on his health and personal life.”
Williams died of heart failure at the age of 29 after struggling with alcoholism and addiction.
Hiddleston will do his own singing in I Saw the Light, which will be based on a Hank Williams biography by Colin Escott. The film will be directed by Marc Abraham, who previously helmed the Greg Kinnear drama Flash of Genius.
Production on I Saw the Light will begin in Louisiana in October. A theatrical release date has not been announced.
