USD 383 board member Katie Allen on Thursday apologized after replying to a post about the Charlie Kirk death “Well deserved.”

Allen was replying to a repost on Facebook by Courtney Jane Hochman, a school board candidate. The original post, from People magazine, reported the death of the influential right-wing speaker and author Kirk, who was killed Wednesday during an event at a Utah college. The post included a quote from Kirk, who once said, “I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”

Allen, who works for the Kansas Department of Education, was elected to the Manhattan-Ogden school board in 2023.
