With less than a month until the official start date for school, members of the USD 383 Manhattan/Ogden School board Wednesday will be presented a first draft of the district’s reopening plan.
In a letter to USD 383 families and staff sent Tuesday, the district announced it plans to move forward with both remote and onsite learning for the 2020-2021 school year. An official determination about which option will be in effect when school begins Aug. 12 will be made closer to that date.
When selecting the remote learning option, parents would be indicating a desire to have all learning via internet access without the need to enter a school building. District certified teaching professions will deliver the district curriculum and materials. The district says a higher degree of accountability will be expected of both the district and families than what occurred during the district’s Continuous Learning Plan last spring.
The onsite learning option would indicate a parent’s desire to have the child receive traditional instruction in a school building with an understanding the school district may need to make adjustments during the school year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
These two options are based on the current recommendations from local health officials.
The district says it is prepared to introduce a hybrid learning model of both in-person and distance learning or transition to an all distance learning model, should the current health circumstances worsen.
Online registration opens July 20 and is the district’s preferred method. Central registration will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 24 at the Manhattan High West Campus. Face coverings are required and those who choose this option will be required to answer some health-related questions upon entering the building.
