A water rescue Thursday at Tuttle Creek Lake ended safely, although about a dozen young rowers were transported by emergency crews to the Wildcat Marina. The call came in shortly after nine a.m. of two boats capsizing, with several emergency crews responding including the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Riley County EMS, Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, Tuttle Creek State Park, and Manhattan and Blue Township Fire Departments.
All boaters were transported safely. An earlier report of them being associated with Manhattan High School could not be confirmed, with USD 383 Communications and Public Safety Coordinator Michele Jones telling KMAN “Manhattan High School does not have a rowing team, adding that is not a KSHSAA sponsored sport. “
