A firefighter was transported to a local hospital for evaluation after a fire Monday night at Feldkamp’s Furniture in Manhattan.
Blue Township Fire District responded at about 7:34 p.m. to the business at 7977 U.S. Highway 24. The fire was contained to a storage area at the back of the building, but smoke spread throughout the structure.
The fire was brought under control by 11 p.m., and emergency crews cleared the scene at about 2 a.m.
A total of 48 personnel and 15 apparatus from six area fire departments responded, along with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and Pottawatomie County EMS.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
