An Onaga man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years, in connection with an aggravated indecent liberties case reported last summer.  Mikel Babcock, 20, was sentenced Thursday in Pottawatomie County District court under Jessica’s Law in connection with the case, which was reported by Onaga Police Chief Daniel Costlow last July.
Four charges were involved in the case, with the arrest coming after an 11 month investigation. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Topeka Police Department assisted with the case.
Pottawatomie County Attorney Sherri Schuck tells KMAN the victim was was 10 years old at the time of the incident and was known to the defendant. Babcock was convicted of Rape and Sexual Exploitation of a child. Since the victim was under the age of 14 and he was 18 or older at the time of the offense, it fell under Jessica’s Law.
