A collaboration between the Riley County Police Department and the local Fraternal Order of Police will bring a different look to several officers this November and benefit low-income families in the community at the same time. “Hair for the Holidays” begins Tuesday and will allow officers the opportunity to forgo shaving for 30 days, after they donate $100 to the FOP Cops ’N Kids program.

Cops ’N Kids is a program that supports families in the community that cannot afford holiday presents and has been an annual program in the Manhattan and Riley County area for 28 years. Each December a group of police officers, detectives, department support staff, and corrections officers join forces to take several area children shopping. Historically the program has served approximately 50 families each year.

Residents and visitors of Riley County can expect to see officers sporting facial hair for the cause throughout November.
