Riley County commissioners denied a request to extend a long-running contract that offsets recycling costs for glass, steel cans and plastic.
For the first time since 2010, Riley County and Bison Ridge Recycling — formerly Howie’s Recycling — will operate without a contract. Previously, the county paid $15,000 annually from the general fund for this service.
Commissioner John Ford said he had conversations with community members and believes too few people use the service to justify the $15,000 expense.
