Starting January 2nd, Manhattan will begin charging for parking in the Aggieville Parking garage, with the first two hours free – with street parking also limited to two hours from 8 to 5 on weekdays.

The Commission Tuesday unanimously approved the regulations – previously considering a 1-hour free parking time frame at a prior meeting before agreeing to a compromise on the matter with the Aggieville Business Association. Manhattan is hoping to incentivize long-term parkers to utilize the garage, leaving street stalls open for quicker stops in the district.

The change to 2 hours does have an estimated financial impact on the budget of 53 thousand dollars, though the city plans to have a 6 month check in to see if adjustments are needed in light of actuals.
