Wamego will soon be home to a major agricultural chemical and seed company.

The Greater Manhattan Economic Partnership (GMEP) is planning an official announcement Thursday to welcome Corteva Agriscience to the region. The company will occupy 22,000 square feet of space inside a recently constructed building inside the Wamego Industrial Park on the city’s eastern edge.

The new facility will employ about 20 permanent workers, largely consisting of office workers and agronomists, plus a number of seasonal workers.

Jack Allston, the executive director of the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation, says many of the positions will be filled by employees relocating from Pioneer Seed offices in Manhattan and Lawrence.

Corteva Agriscience’s entrance into Wamego is also predicted to have an economic impact on the area that Allston says will be “substantial.”

Corteva Agriscience was the agricultural unit of DowDuPont prior to being spun off as an independent public company in June 2019. Revenues of the company were estimated at over $14 billion in 2017.

A public announcement is coming at 10 a.m. Thursday inside the Columbian Theater in Wamego. Guests will include Corteva employees, board members from the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation, the GMEP Advisory Board as well as Wamego city and Pottawatomie County officials.
